BOOK CLUBS

Welcome Book Clubs,

I love book clubs because we always have so much fun together, and I’d love to visit with yours. There’s so much to talk about with MAYA BLUE A Memoir of Survival. The influence of mother/daughter relationships, how different events in our lives have helped us grow and evolve as we’ve matured and gotten older, and how does the power of our voice affect our relationships and even when we or a loved one is diagnosed with a serious illness.

Book clubs do such creative things at their meetings. One group made the tortellini I described making in the book, while another made tacos and guacamole that reflected the food of Central America. If you have any photos of your book club discussing MAYA BLUE, please send them to me, and I’ll add them to my website gallery below.

If your book club would like to set up a date for me to join you, all my scheduling is done through Adventures by the Book, a free service that arranges up to a one-hour online visit either by Zoom, FaceTime, or phone. The visit is free and so is your membership to Adventures by the Book. Please click here to sign up for your membership and to request an in-person or online visit from me to your book club.

Hope to see you soon!

BOOK CLUB DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

• Can you identify with author, Brenda Coffee, who, at such a young age, worshipped and idolized her older, established and prominent husband?

•  Brenda wanted to be more than arm candy, so she read newspapers and business magazines in order to be better informed for a worldly sophisticated man like Philip. Have you ever tried to be what you thought the man in your life wanted or needed? If not, why not?

•  How does the title MAYA BLUE, the strongest most resilient pigment ever created, relate to the message of the book?

•  Can you relate to giving up your voice in a relationship or a marriage?

•  It took Brenda 30 years to begin writing MAYA BLUE. Is there something in your life you’ve needed time and distance from to put it in perspective, much less talk about it with other people?

•  Book reviewers comment on the raw honesty of Brenda’s writing and the way she shares her emotions on the page. Have you tried writing about the difficult times in your life, and has writing helped you deal with it? Has it helped you see the truth, not how you want to remember it?

• What are some of Brenda’s experiences that made you look at your own life? Did they help you see your own experiences in a different way?

•  What are some of the takeaways from MAYA BLUE?

•  If you could ask author, Brenda Coffee, one question, what would it be?

•  Share a favorite quote from the book.
